Birthday Wishlist 2017

It’s that time of year again!  Two weeks to go and I am another year older. To be honest though I am not all that excited about my birthday this year. I am working that whole weekend so that is probably the main contributor.  But what they hey, one way to get amped is to put a wishlist together and even if you don’t get anything off the list it’s still fun to put together.

2017 Birthday Wishlist

So let’s get into the good stuff shall we?

It has been a while since I added to my eyeshadow collection. I am always looking out for that perfect palette that has a good balance of matte and shimmer, light and dark shades and this palette looks like a winner!

This is one of those hyped up products that I have always thought about splurging on but never took the plunge.  Mainly because I can’t justify having a highlighter as one of the most expensive product in my makeup collection.  But that’s the point of a wishlist and also, they make them in these cute mini sizes now so I don’t think it’s too cheeky of an ask.

I have been really getting into doing my nails over the last couple of months so I have been paying

This is just pretty – light pink and rose gold? Yes please!

I have this in the Eau de Parfume and it is one of my favourites. I may not pay that much attention but I am fairly sure that they didn’t have a shower gel in this range before but yay for me that they do now!

Another winning fragrance from The Body Shop here – so light and fresh.   I know it’s another shower gel but I am so bad with using body butters and creams that it is such a waste to by them.

This is a bit of a random addition to the wish list but I have always wanted to have a complete collection of Robbie CDs (yes I know – old school). The ones I don’t have are the first four

  • Life Thru a Lens
  • I’ve Been Expecting You
  • Sing When You’re Winning
  • The Ego Has Landed

This is the second official biography for Robbie Roo and it needs to be added to my collection. Am I expecting this to be a great book? – Not really but hey that’s what being a fan is all about. I don’t even know if this will be available in South Africa actually!

July XI 2017

Christy Bronwyn JUL17 XI

Another month has gone by and that means another month of favourites.  Keep reading to see my July XI and it is a real bunch of randoms this month!

1. Skin Creamery Face and Body Lotion

This product is my go to moisturiser in winter and it made a comeback in my skincare routine at the beginning of the season.  It was a complete life-saver for me last year.  I use it mostly at night so that my skin really has a chance to absorb it and I find it works great under makeup during this time of the year.  The scent also makes me feel like I am having a spa treatment every night and who doesn’t want that?

2. LA Girl Shady Slim Eyebrow Pencil

This was a little impulse buy when I found myself wandering the makeup aisle at Dischem (local drugstore) as you do.  I have been keen to try the NYX microbrow pencil but there never seemed to be stock of a suitable shade for my brows when I looked at Clicks (the other drugstore). So when I happened on this product I thought I would give it a bash and loved it immediately.  I really enjoy the sharp and defined look that it provides. If I really want statement brows then I use this in combination with my Essence Make Me Brow gel and that really does the trick.

3. The 1975 T-shirt

In last month’s favourites post, I mentioned that The 1975 had pretty much dominated my playlist and they still kinda do. Now I love merch as much as the next person but availability is usually non-existent in this country, short of printing something yourself – which I was very close to doing.  Then I had a bit of a brain wave and remembered a shop called “Hot Topic” and that I had people in the States that love me enough to spoil me!  Cut to me receiving this beautiful t-shirt last month as an early birthday present.  Happy Christy indeed!

4. Real Techniques Buffing Brush

I had heard great things about this brush and it most definitely lives up to the hype.  I am always looking to expand my Real Techniques makeup brush collection and was lucky enough to be spoiled with “Core Collection” when my mum returned from a trip overseas. The one downside is that this brush is only available as part of the collection and cannot be purchased singly.  It blends foundation like a dream and I find my makeup lasts longer when I use this brush.  It is useful if you want light coverage but it can also build foundation to medium and full coverage.

5. Real Techniques Contour Brush

On that note another here is another winner from the Core Collection. It is labelled as a contour brush and it works great for that purpose but I use it for setting my under eye area.  Real Techniques does have a dedicated setting brush but I don’t own one of those yet and I am very happy with the performance of this brush.  It helps set my undereye concealer with a light layer of powder that stops the concealer from settling into fine lines.

6. Game of Thrones

There are no words to accurately describe how excited I was for the premiere of season 7.  Having to wait over a year for the new season to start was a testing experience and yes, maybe I am being a bit over dramatic but if you don’t understand where I’m coming from then, “You know nothing, Jon Snow.”… yeah, that happened.  Anyway, at the time of writing there are only three episodes left in the season (nine in the series!) and as this is a spoiler free zone all I will say is, “Wow!”.

7. MAPP10 Skin Repair Pills

I wish I had taken a before and after picture to show you how amazing these pills are.  Over the last few months I have been struggling with annoying breakouts and bought these on a whim.  These are a natural 10 day course of treatment and while I was skeptical in the beginning, they worked without me evening noticing they were working. About seven days in I noticed my skin texture had improved and the break out had healed.  When I had finished the 10 days, I started getting breakouts again so I started another round of treatment. You can take the 10 day treatment up to three months in a row but there is also a month long maintenance treatment as a follow up once your skin has cleared.  I shall keep you updated with the process! You can buy this at most major pharmacies in South Africa but if you are having problems on where to find it check out their website

8. Anthropologie rings

These were also part of my spoils from the States.  I am very picky about jewellery and particularly about rings but I fell in love with these instantly.  They can be worn separately but I wear them stacked with the opal ring on top.

9. Neutrogena Water Gel

I first bought this along with the cleanser when the range was released last year and has been a part of my skincare routine since.  It is the perfect day time moisturiser for my combination skin as it provides hydration without making my skin greasy.  The formula of this moisturiser is very lightweight and is absorbed into the skin quickly.  Ideally I would prefer it to be in a tube as the pot is unhygienic but that’s not going to stop me from repurchasing this.

10. Natur Vital Silver Shampoo

This is every bottle blonde’s secret weapon! When I went back to blonde last year, the best advice my hairstylist gave me was to use purple shampoo every time I washed my hair.  Each time I go out after washing my hair I get asked by at least one person if I have just had my hair redone – that is not an over exaggeration, I promise.  This is the best purple shampoo variant that I have tried out as it incredibly pigmented which really helps with toning down the brassiness in the blonde

11. Don’t Matter Now – George Ezra

I have so been looking forward to hearing new music from Mr Ezra and he didn’t disappoint with the lead single from his new album.  It is the perfect song for a summer chill out playlist.  He is one of my favourite artists and I had the pleasure of seeing him live when he toured South Africa in 2015.  I still listen to his debut album “Wanted on Voyage” and if this track is anything to go on, then the second album is going to be just as great. Enjoy!

First XI May 2016 – Monthly Favourites

As this is my first favourites post I will explain the title of First XI.  With this blog being an amalgamation of all my favourite things, one of those being cricket I have decided to try and merge these to different worlds.  “First XI” refers to a cricket team being made up of eleven players and only the best players are chosen for the first team.  So instead of doing a traditional “Top 10”, I thought I would incorporate some cricket into the beauty side of the blog as well.  I won’t be limiting these posts to just makeup or beauty but of all the things that brought a smile to my face during the month.
