A Durban Girl’s Guide to Surviving Winter

I love winter but when it comes to the cold weather I can be a bit of a ninny, hence the need for a survival guide. For those of you that don’t know Durban isn’t the coldest place in South Africa and is mostly known for having the best weather in the country during winter. Saying that, we do get some chilly days due to snowy conditions on the mountains a bit further inland (as I type this post the thermometer on my verandah is telling me it is 15 degrees outside).  I also spent the last week of June in Johannesburg I actually got to wear coats and jerseys I haven’t worn since the last time I was in Gauteng, which was about three years ago!   I was since inspired to put together all the goodies that are getting me through the season.

Tri-Nations Series 2016

Just to put the beauty lovers’ mind at ease, these blogs will only come up when I actually have something to say and I won’t be reviewing every match.  I tried that on a previous blog and it felt very repetitive and if the team isn’t getting good results then it can become quite negative.  Don’t get me wrong- of course a team is going to lose a few matches and everything can’t be bright and breezy all of the time. But for me anyway, I need to feel content after I have written about something and not have a cloud of negativity floating above my head afterwards.  I don’t think anybody needs that.

So I figure seeing as South Africa have won and lost a game in the series so far that this is a good place to kick off my cricket blogs!

First XI May 2016 – Monthly Favourites

As this is my first favourites post I will explain the title of First XI.  With this blog being an amalgamation of all my favourite things, one of those being cricket I have decided to try and merge these to different worlds.  “First XI” refers to a cricket team being made up of eleven players and only the best players are chosen for the first team.  So instead of doing a traditional “Top 10”, I thought I would incorporate some cricket into the beauty side of the blog as well.  I won’t be limiting these posts to just makeup or beauty but of all the things that brought a smile to my face during the month.

Skin Creamery Facial Oil Review

In May I entered the Skin Creamery Mother’s Day competition and to my surprise I won (I may or may not have let out a little shriek of joy in the office when I found out).  I won a bottle of the facial oil and the face and body cream which I obviously gave to my mom for Mother’s Day but she was kind enough to share the prize with me as I had basically been lusting after the Skin Creamery products for about three months.  And before you ask, yes, I do have my priorities straight.  Firstly, I know I didn’t buy anything but the service was great, I got quick responses to my emails and I received the products the next day.  Secondly, how gorgeous is the packaging!

Catrice Treasure Trove Palette (Limited Edition)

So the other day I had to pop into Dischem to pick up a prescription and just so happened to walk down the makeup aisle. Not sure how that happened…

Ehem, anyway I found myself drawn to the Catrice stand and immediately took interest in their latest limited edition collection.  To be honest, I was mostly drawn in by the packaging of the palette but I mean come on, just look at it…
